Masks

All of my masks are made of paper in plaster moulds allowing me to make copies. Although they are made in moulds, each mask, from the same mould, has it's own unique character. I have Larval, Commedia and full expressive masks available.

The masks are extremely light and strong. They are comfortable to wear and easily customized for individual performers. These masks have withstood years of international touring with various companies.

All of them are completely repairable. For the most part it is the elastic headbands that need to be replaced, they simply give out after a few years. I have found the elastic usually lasts for about 8 to 10 years. Occasionally a mask will get damaged. I have had noses broken, sides squashed, and other minor damages done to them. I have also done major repairs.

They are painted white (except on request) which allows light to play on them. This helps them to change expression. After being used for a while they begin to get dirty. The oils and dirt on people’s hands comes off on the mask and with time they develop a lovely natural patina causing their expressive qualities to increase. An example of this is seen in the first image in the gallery.

All masks are available for purchase. For information on prices, what I have available and timeline please send me an email.

I also design masks for new shows. Let me know what you are looking for, thinking about and we can discuss how to proceed.

Generally each mask takes 5 weeks to complete. A set (8-12) can be made up in about 8-9 weeks depending on how busy I am.

I require 50% up front via email payment and the remainder once the masks have been delivered. Shipping charges are extra.

These two masks are from the same mold. They illustrate the difference between a brand new mask and the lovely patina that develops naturally after they have been used for awhile.
